The ever popular top Florida Summer Teams Predictions by Kenny Kallina

1) Miami Suns - Team Fowles South Florida, FL - Top Players: Brittany Brown (Chotawhachee) 2013; Macy Keen (Dillard) 2012; Raigyne Moncrief (American Heritage) 2013; Kai James (Dwyer) 2013; Keyanna Harris (Dwyer) 2014 - Four All American candidates start for a resurgent Miami Suns program who spent last year building and this year possibly dominating the state. Starting off with the Deep South Classic an event they won when they last attended the Suns are the clear top team in Florida this spring and summer. Affiliation: None. Directors: Paul Torres, Obel Cruz, Miguel Diaz, Fitzroy Anthony www.Miamisuns.org

2) Essence (Tallahassee, Fl) - Top Players: Courtney Williams (Charlton County) 2012; Alexis Prince (Edgewater) 2012; Niya Johnson (PK Yonge) 2012; Brandi Teague (American Heritage) 2012; Ieshia Small (Dr. Krop) 2013. - Unless something changes they will be without All American top 10 national recruit Rachel Holliva (New Hope MS) because of the ajoining state policy. Essence has a great load of guards but questions up front and tough competition at Boo Williams. If they can fill the void up front look for them to be a top level team again this summer. Director: Kim Davis Powell Affiliation: Nike www.essencebball.com

3) FGB - Florida Girl's Basketball (Neptune Beach, Fl) - Top Players: Simiah Blount (West Orange) 2012; Trimaine McCullough (Edgewater) 2013; Ashley Perry (Leesburg) 2013; Aunesha Williams (Cherokee) 2014; Diamond Cooper (West Orange) 2012; Dominique Simpson (Jones) 2014/Shaquoia Crockett (Bradwell Institute) 2014 - Shavontae Naylor’s knee injury makes FGB younger but there is no lack of talent this year for FGB. Trimaine McCullough is Florida’s top sophomore, Dominique Simpson maybe the top freshman in Florida and Shaquoia Crockett and Aunesha Williams are two of the top freshmen in Georgia. If FGB’s young players can mature quickly they can play with anyone. Director: Kenny Kallina No Affiliation www.fgbhoops.com

4) Jacksonville Lady Rams (Jacksonville, Fl) Top Players: Antoinette Bannister (Potter’s House) 2012 Hillary Fuller (Potters House) 2012 - Potter’s House loses 5 division I players off last years team and there just isn’t a ton of talent to replace it to replicate what they have had in the past but with their run and jump and high level of athleticism will keep them in the top four this year in the state. Director: Tony Bannister www.youngchristiansinaction.com Affiliation: Mike White

5) Below the Rim (Hollywood,Fl) - Top Players Ariah Osceola & Rebecca Lyttle (Michigan) - Hollywood Christian - Carlos Adamson gets his kids all over the country, had one of the top teams in the state last year and oneo f the best coached teams around. Look for Below the Rim to reload for this year and have another successful travel season.

6) Florida Angels (Tampa, Fl) - Top Players: Kasey Drayton (Lakewood) 2013; Bre Crum (Sickles) 2012; Shanice Beamon 2012 (Lakewood); Alexis Ungro (Boca Ciega) 2013 - Combining the best 14U team in the state and playing them up with Hillsborough county’s leading scorer Bre Crum will give the Angels a scoring punch and plenty of local practice time to get ready to play the big dogs. The Angels will take their first swing at playing the top teams in the state this year and I think they will do rather well.

7) South Florida Jaguars (Davie, Fl) - The Jags don’t return much from last years team but they do return the knowledge of how to run a good travel team and how to play and beat the best. People will underestimate them early but in the end it would not surprise me to see last year’s Florida Team of the Summer to come out with some surprising wins. The Jags, year in and year out are one of the best coached teams in the state. Director: Jason Hivley Affiliation Peach State www.southfloridaladyjaguars.org

8) Central Florida Elite - Top Players - Ronni Williams (Atlantic) 2013; Sydnei MCaskill (Dr Phillips) 2013; Morgan Robinson (Lyman) 2012; January Miller (University) 2012 - Formerly the Orlando Comets 15U, Central Florida Elite will take their first shot at playing on an elite level of basketball this year. After being unable to win their pool at Boo Williams last year and getting shut out of Nike Nationals Central Florida has a lot to prove on the national level that they are as good as their reputation in Florida. Program Director: Al Honor Website www.cflelite.com Affliation: Essence

9) Orlando Comets - Top Player - Joy Brown (Evans) 2012 KP Pound (Sebastian River) 2013 Kadesia Johnson (Poinciana) 2012 - Once on top of the AAU world here in Florida you can see how far the Comets have fallen. Going 1-9 in Boo Williams and Nike Nationals landed them on the outside of Nike as you can see on the Blue Star Website www.bluestarbb.com/ - Go to girl’s travel teams. The Comets lost their 15U teams, Brittany Jackson (to FBC Southeast Elite) and their shot at becoming relevant once again. Affiliation: None Program Director: Dean Mosley www.orlandocomets.org

10) Blue Star Florida - Top Players - Tiffany Suarez (Lourdes) 2013; Kiara Palmer (Lourdes) 2013; Alexis Sams (Lake Brantley) 2012 - Formerly DEBO, a year too late to have All American Morgan Jones and a day late for the heyday of basketball in Seminole County, Blue Star is trying to carve a new tradition in Seminole County. While their portfolio of players is not up to some of the top teams in the state now, Darren Evans’s 14U team could possibly put them into relevance in two years as he has some of the best young kids in the state. Program Director: Lisa Nuxol Affilition: Blue Star www.bluestar-florida.com

Look like a few teams are missing the from rankings above. Other than that there is a LOT of talent in Florida.
