Florida Hoopster's Alabama kid,Lasonya Ford....
« on: August 02, 2009, 08:49:03 PM »
The Florida Hoosters in Ocala,FL. They will be in Atlanta on August 14-16. These girls are very talented and has a lot of experience. Their Key player is LaSonya Ford, a '5,8',168 pound guard/forward. She can play 1,2,3,&4 position. This versatile kid is a big threat when it comes down to game time. Ford is a dynamic player who knows how to score and has a great IQ. When her team is under pressure, she knows how to release the pressure and have her team back focused. Ford is originally from Mobile,AL. She was one of the areas best. She made All-State 2nd team as a freshman. She transferred to First Coast High School under Head Coach Jerry Whittaker. First Coast haven't been to the playoffs in 10 years. The sophomore(Ford) made a change and led them to the playoffs averaging(13ppg,11rpg-Double-Double) the whole season. After most of her helping teammates graduated, she felt nervous for the next season. " I felt like the only one left on the ship,"Ford said. "I would think that we was gone be a terrible team then, but I said to myself,I can do this. I'll just have to help the incomers get confidence about their selves." Her Junior season wasn't the plan she was looking for. She tried her hardest to get them to state. Instead, the season ended short in the first round of districts. Even though it ended, LaSonya kept her word and made sure  the freshman's and sophomore's would keep the confidence in them for the future. She have many D1 schools interest in her,but theirs not an offer yet. " I have interest, I talked to Coach Ty Evans from  University of Alabama. Hopefully I receive an offer. I work my tale off everyday just to see if an offer from any school come in the mail. Alabama's my home so I would love to go back to my roots," Ford said. She loves to penetrate and draw the defense into her so she can dish it to an open man, or she would draw a foul and get AND-1's. She transferred to Jean Ribault High School at the end of her Junior year and she will be a big key player to their team. Now tell me ,do this kid deserve an offer or what?

She sounds like a good player!  However, she will need exposure to be seen by college coaches.
There are several ways to do this.

1. Play on a travel team that plays in high exposure tournaments during April and July.
2. Record EVERY game. College coaches are going to want FULL game DVD's not just highlights.
3. Contact the schools that she is interested in. She can call and email the college coaches she likes they just can't initiate the contact.
4. Be realistic about your talent. Chances are if UCONN has not called yet then they don't want you. Find a school where you can compete.
4. Upload your game footage to youtube, viddler etc. Mailing DVD's can get really expensive if you are sending to multiple schools.
5. Maintain a high GPA and start a study program for the SAT and ACT from NOW.

These steps will give her every opportunity to be seen and evaluated.
By making the college recruiters job easier you get more exposure.

Hey Coach!!!

The girls side is a little different. They typically offer a little later than boys.
If she can stay consistent and have a stong summer next year she will probably garner some serious interest.

Good luck adn let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you.

I know this might sound crazy, but she's about to be a senior this year and this is her last summer to perform. I talked to University of Alabama Coach Ty Evans. He told me he was having her on his radar,to look at this summer of July in Atlanta. We played in the Atlanta Peach State Elite Tournaments and were going back on August 14-16. I never spotted Coach Evans there.

Do you have any video footage of her from this summer or any other good game?

Hey Coach. My name is Gary Green, Im the Asst Womens Coach at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. The JUCO route is an often overlooked avenue for talented young ladies that are just getting overlooked. We send players on to D1 schools on a regular basis after a year or two that have been the exact same situation Lasonya has been in. Im just giving you different options in making her goals a reality.

Give us a look...

Thanks, this kid is a heck of a player..She's a natural player, not average, but natural. We don't see many natural talents like this one. I'm still wondering why she has so many D1 interest and no offers. This kid deserves offers.
